UAE artist wins global art competition

May 5, 2012

The ‘New Era Introducing’ EMEA Exhibition took place last week at the Al Serkal Avenue in Dubai. A global project launched in EMEA, it also has plans of expansion in the US, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.

The first phase encouraged talent from eight participating countries - United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, UAE and South Africa - to submit their work to the creative community on the New Era Introducing website.

Upon the second phase, a shortlist of uniquely creative individuals from each country were issued a blank New Era 59FIFTY cap and asked to express themselves and their talent by transforming the 59FIFTY cap into a distinctive work of art.

The final entries were appraised by an international judging panel, including renowned British tailor Timothy Everest, and formed a touring exhibition that visited galleries throughout major cities in the contributing countries. Each finalist on the tour experienced invaluable international exposure among creatives, industry professionals, and tastemakers alike. After an international search for the creative minds of tomorrow, a winning entry by 23-year-old Lina Al-Amoudi from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, was chosen and awarded a £10,000 bursary to assist in launching her chosen artistic career. Her design along with the 79 finalists has featured in a touring gallery exhibition which started last November in London, UK, and since gone on to tour six other EMEA cities – Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm and Cape Town and ended in Dubai last week.
